Love Lupita says it right: guest blogs by Chef McDermott about creating funky family food! And I loooooove Momvo-topics, it gives me a feeling that we all contribute to your website (and in a sense we do), that all of us connect, no matter what backgrounds we have. And not just for mamma's all over the world, but I also love girlfriendtalk in a more general way: like how to cope with becoming 40? Okay, maybe that's  more of an issue for me personally, but hey, I can use this comment as a coming-out, can't I? I dread hitting the big 4-0 next year: BIG TIME! The sensible grown-up part of me says that it's not how old you are, but how young you feel and that 40 is just a number. My immature, vain and narcissistic part says 40 sucks and is only 10 years away of turning 50!!

Please do continue with them nice picTORIals; it gives such an intimate glimpse of your personal life, it touches my heart every time. And I love seeing you and your family 'unplugged' so to speak: no Hollywood glamour, just plain and simple familylife, like all of us have! And would love to see even more vintage findings, both in fashion as in furniture and home decor. And to close my wishlist: you already ask a lot, you are very inviting to contribute to this site, which I love. But do you like something more or different? To put it differently: are there any requests from you to us, contributors?

I recently interviewed mompreneur Katie O’Neill about her line of custom kids' step stools, Kt Steppers. All of my kids have their own Kt Steppers step stools and they’re great. Check out our conversation below- Katie has some fabulous advice for fellow mompreneurs, and she’s giving away a custom Kt Stepper step stool!

kt steppers
What inspired you to start KT Steppers?

I truly love being categorized as a Mompreneur. You could say being a 'MOMpreneur' means more to me than words can explain. The summer before my junior year in college, my life, vision, and future plans all came to a halt. Headaches, vision problems, and lactation were just a few symptoms I encountered before I learned that I had a brain tumor. I don’t know many people who can say this, but I had brain surgery when I was 22 years old to remove a benign (thank goodness) tumor on my pituitary gland. It was so large that surgical removal was crucial; otherwise it would've continued to more severely affect my vision and pituitary functions.

Because of the tumor's location and size, the possibility of not having children could have been very real. So, as you can imagine, I am very proud of my mom-owned company. I wanted a kid-friendly business since that is whom I spend my days, hours and minutes with, and can’t imagine it any other way now. I am a mom of two boys, now ages 7 and almost 5. They have become my support and inspiration for Kt Steppers.

katie of kt steppers

What do you love best about your job?

My job is about creating, building a brand, meeting & collaborating with amazing other entrepreneurs and of course… being able to do ALL of this as a full time MOM.  I would have to say that in this job, I absolutely love hearing how our steppers are received and that mom, moms-to-be and/or tots themselves just loved what we created and made for them … Kt Steppers is truly my third baby so hearing that is the same satisfaction I get from seeing my boys smile at me and say ‘I love You Mommy.’

What are the biggest challenges you face as a mompreneur?

I believe everyone can agree T-I-M-E!   There never seems to be enough hours in a day. My day usually begins before 6am too. I have 3 full days a week to myself to get work done while both my boys are in school, so you would think this would be adequate (and it's more than I had even last year), but I have a tendency to just add more to my plate… just a little each day/week (it’s a problem I have).

As a mompreneur, how do you approach risk taking? And how does being a mom factor into your decisions?

If you’re ‘in it to win it’ you definitely need to take risks or keep your biz a hobby.  My approach, after being in sales for years, is don’t be afraid to hear the word ‘NO’.  For every 10 ‘No’s’ there is a ‘Yes’.  So, send that email, message, or make that phone call, the worst outcome is ‘No’.

Because I’m also a mom, I do factor in what the risk is... am I pursuing an event that will take me away from my MOM duties? Will fulfilling this order keep me from seeing my son’s game or play? I definitely calculate when/where/why to take that risk. If it will be a huge return for not only me, but my family, then there is no question on taking that leap and going for it!

Is the professional personal? Do you find that you sometimes need to create boundaries between home life and work life?

Yes, the professional is personal for me. I run a business that is geared to MOMs supplying a product for kids. I am my brand ‘Kt’, so it is 100% personal.

Don’t confuse the personal for unprofessional though. You also have to draw boundaries, especially with how you/your business is perceived. I do believe there is a line that can be crossed in today’s social media age. I want to be personal and show that I am human, connect on that level of being a mom to my audience, but I’m also promoting my brand.

What’s coming up for KT Steppers?

Right now, this month, we have some exciting news… we were a finalist in the 2012 Cribsie Awards – Cutest StepStools for Tots in Climbing Mode. We are up against some ‘bigger’ brands and the voting ended last week.  We couldn’t be more thrilled and honored about this nomination and look forward to hearing the winner announced on April 2nd.

More exciting news is that we are looking to launch our ‘Initial Series’ Steppers shortly.  They will be a great addition to our eco-friendly product line with standard designs and just an ‘initial’ to personalize for quick ship.

One more exciting tidbit… I will be featured in a book!!! I can’t divulge too much information, but after speaking at a fabulous entrepreneur focused conference last year, the organizers have asked to include some of my advice for the book for all to see and read (pretty exciting). Will definitely keep everyone posted.

kt steppers
What are your top mommy must-haves for busy moms on the go?

1. Not until last year did I own a ‘Smartphone’ and my goodness is it smart! I don’t really know how I functioned without it… it helps run my biz when I’m not at home (HQ) and also is a meltdown stopper for the kids (Angry Birds is a fave app).

2. The Crockpot for sure! After a busy day out and about or just working at home, to know that dinner will be done and ready with little or no effort is a lifesaver!

3. Having an organized ‘home-based’ calendar. My husband travels often for work, so knowing his schedule, the kids’ activities and my meetings all in one place is how we function and know where everyone is!

4. Lastly, I would have to say… having a supportive partner. If it wasn’t for my husband, we wouldn’t be as successful as we’ve become. He truly is my #1 fan and supporter!

What is one piece of advice you'd give to an aspiring mompreneur?

Don’t give up!  You may have started your business with only one goal in mind, but if that is not working don’t throw it to the curb, tweak it!  See what is working and build on that. Don’t be afraid to scale your business. Just because you started one way doesn’t mean it will succeed that way. Oh yeah, breathe and enjoy the ride!

Thank you Katie!

Very cute stools, adorable!

My mommy must have (my daughter is 3 months old) is a wubbanub pacifier. It's a soothie pacifier with a plush toy attached - genius! When she spits out her paci it doesn't fall to the floor, she is able to grab it and put it back in her mouth.

Last week, Casi of CupcakeMAG shared some advice for mompreneurs and offered a free makeover for one lucky ediTORIal reader (valued at $500). I’m excited to announce that we have a winner!

Here’s what our winner Stephanie had to say:

“What a wonderful inspiration you both are Tori and Casi. To know and see the words of other mom entrepreneurs is grounding and motivating. I am an entrepreneur and mother of two. I have hidden in the closet to take on telephone calls while popping open play dough and opening candy through a cracked door. The lines of work and home criss-cross like a racerback bra, and sometimes, I forget to delegate some crucial moments of time and beauty to ME. I am on my way to creating some balance here.  I've recognized that I could use a little more for myself...just yesterday I allowed a purchase for myself: fuchsia platform heels. What on earth am I going to wear with them, Casi?! They were indulgent...they celebrate me and what I like...that's important.”

Congrats, Stephanie! Be sure to upload pics of the “new you” to your profile and like them so we can all see!

I recently put my website to rest.  It's just way too hard to compete with the baby super stores.  I need to find a way to help my family out financially while being a SAHM.  My husband has to take a mandatory Furlough of 14 weeks per year, and after having our "Suprise Miracle Baby" this past August, it has really put a crunch on our finances.   I have an idea for 2 baking accessories that are not on the market (One of them being done in fun & funky colors!)  but I do not have the means to bring them to fruition.  Interested in an endeavor Tori?  Wanna be my partner?  Let me know, I think it would be a fun adventure!

Hi Tori,
I'm a mother of 3 children, two boys and a girl. My boys are a lot older than my daughter and raising them was easy. My daughters 10 and in 4th grade and even though she's still so young the girl drama is crazy! Faith is such a soft hearted person and is always befriending the girls that seem to not fit in.She can't stand to see anyone hurt or mistreated. Because of this her life isn't always easy! She hears all the time why are you hanging out with her she's gross. If your her friend you cant be mine. She doesn't understand why everyone can't be friends. So she came up with and idea to get her point acrossed . She wants to start a program for girls and try to make them all feel good about herself. She wants to make t-shirts with positive sayings on them. He platform is Your Beautiful,Your Important, and Your Loved!
She wants every girl to feel that way. She also loves you and she would love to get your imput on what you think the best way to get her message out.
Thanks ,

I recently interviewed mompreneur Casi Densmore-Koon about her fun fashion site cupcakeMAG. She has some great tips for all you mompreneurs, plus she’s giving away a makeover! Check it out:

What inspired you to start cupcakeMAG?

As the ringleader of four girls, my darling hubs, and our dogs Stella (a beagle), and a newly adopted Weimaraner, Hausse, cupcakeMAG became my full-time job very quickly. Majoring in fashion merchandising and journalism in college (while running a high-end boutique), I wanted the best of both worlds - to write about fashion. I started cupcakeMAG as a place to showcase my reviews and designer interviews while attending celebrity events, fashion events, and fashion week in Miami, LA and New York. I wanted my site to be a go-to place for all things fashion. Rather quickly, it branched out to product reviews, giveaways galore, DIY projects, home trends, beauty must-haves, celebrity interviews, and one of my favorites -- a place to showcase artisans, Etsy designers and anything handmade. I am passionate about supporting small businesses and being a cheerleader for others in the same industry. In my eyes, we have no competitors, and I truly believe in karma. I never imagined that I would need to bring on a team, let alone call myself an entrepreneur! I am thrilled with the reputation cupcakeMAG now has - the support has been amazing!

What will readers find when they go there?

You will immediately read super-fab celeb interviews, must-have products we can’t live without, and pretty much all things stylish. We have lots of fun photo shoots and giveaways too! We like to keep readers in-the-know with all things fashion, home, and beauty and give them great content.

We have some super exciting news we are thrilled to share too! After lots of emails, tweets, and questions about what to wear and requests for fashion help, we are launching cupcakeMAG styles – virtual styling services! If you’ve always wanted a personal stylist but can’t afford one, cupcakeMAG has got you covered! We can thank our readers for inspiring us to put our styling skills to work - we now offer many different options for all different budgets, from a full-virtual makeover to à la carte services for our clients, and we’re thrilled to be interacting with readers even more.

What’s your most popular feature?

Okay, I am not just saying this for obvious reasons, but cupcakeMAG fans love the Spelling-McDermotts! We have interviewed Tori four times on cupcakeMAG and Dean was our Man of Style and did an oh-so-fab interview with us too! Our celebrity interviews are always the most popular, followed by Etsy designers we showcase and our product reviews. Besides celebrity interviews, one of our most popular featured bloggers was Kelly Stamps – her cupcakeMAG interview got well over 25,000 hits.

What do you love best about your job?

I absolutely love being able to network with such amazing people. Every day I build new relationships with great people and I have met such supportive friends along the way. It truly is amazing what a little tweeting can do. Next thing you know, you’ve got yourself a best friend. And the reward factor is just incredible – I love getting emails asking to be featured, and when we respond the excitement is endless – you can feel the love in the email or the phone call. I love seeing a super small biz starting off with no sales and watching them grow. Being able to help them along the way by sharing them with our readers and being a mentor is a great feeling – knowing our jobs made a difference in their life. At the end of the day, you have to “do what you love and love what you do” in order to be successful – you have to follow your heart and every day that is just what I do – give your all or go home is what I live by. For our cupcakeMAG styles clients being able to see the end result and see how we have changed their life – even if it is a pair of shoes, it is so worth all of those sleepless nights.

Is entrepreneurship for everyone?

I was raised in a never give up, reach for the moon, you can do anything you put your mind to household, so yes, anyone can be an entrepreneur but in order to be successful – you definitely need to check a few things off your list before you give it a go.

Being an entrepreneur can often times be one of the hardest jobs in the world, besides being a mom. It takes lots of all-nighters, passion, drive and a go-getter attitude. There is no time to give up. You don’t have sick leave, you can’t just take a personal day – you can’t afford to lose that time.  As an entrepreneur your biz becomes like a child – it is your baby so you devote lots of time. It is all about finding that balance. During New York Fashion Week, I barely sleep – same thing goes when we are working on anything with a time crunch, which is almost always. Business is always top of mind – even at home you will be concentrating energy on the next feature, photo shoot, review, client needs, etc. You must have a never give up attitude and tough exterior – you must push and be self-confident because most of the time you are working alone. You learn to accept things as they are and deal with them -- you quickly learn from mistakes. You have to constantly be ready to solve a problem because there will be no one else there to blame it on. It is always go time.

You can never give up. If you want it, go after it and get it. I constantly am making lists of everything I want to do and I am happy to say I have checked so many off of the list. I write it down, get it done and check it off. You have to push yourself and believe – you can do it and sometimes you have to think with your heart to get there.

What are the biggest challenges you face as a mompreneur?

Time! If only we had 34 hours in a day. Ah, that would be amazing.

Another challenge is for some reason, people think I am some crazy robot but they need to realize, I am only human! Yes, I get hundreds of emails a day and everyone knows I most likely will read them right away but sometimes I don’t have time to immediately reply. Yes, I am professional and run a business, but I am also a mother of four girls and have a household to maintain. Sometimes your kids are sick, so you don’t have time to sit at your desk for twelve hours responding to emails, editing photos, taking conference calls, etc. I work 24/7 – all the time. Unless I shut off my iPhone (which never happens unless it died from over-use), I am constantly working. It also becomes very hard to shut off your mind – biz is constantly on the brain.

sadie

Casi’s daughter Sadie

As a mompreneur, how do you approach risk taking? And how does being a mom factor into your decisions?

When you take a big risk and beat the odds – the wow factor of the success is amazing – you live for these feelings.  You have to take risks in order to be successful. I truly believe in going with your instinct - if that means taking a risk you have to go for it. Being a mom absolutely factors into my decisions. I don’t write about something I am not passionate about. I won’t suggest something I don’t absolutely love or have in my home, or use on my Littles.

Is the professional personal? Do you find that you sometimes need to create boundaries between home life and work life?

You have to work on that perfect balance, which is hard. Yes, I will admit. There have been times where I get a last minute email to find out I am doing a phone interview with Steven Tyler just to realize I am home with my girls and this was so not in the schedule. True story! So what do I do?  Immediately figure out a way to keep them entertained quietly while I hide in bedroom because shockingly, I don’t have a nanny. When you have a job like mine, disconnecting just doesn’t happen. It is hard to shut off work life and walk into home life especially with social media and technology. I can’t remember the last time I just really relaxed and had nothing on my schedule but I wouldn’t have it any other way! My schedule is always jam-packed and I’m a list-aholic. If you look under reminders and notes on my iPhone – it never ends. It is the only way I can truly stay organized.

The professional is personal – absolutely! I only have one twitter account – it is my business account but it is also personal.  For example readers followed my youngest, Sadie, through her four week stay in the NICU while I still tweeted biz updates and tweeted pictures of Sadie in the hospital. Who I am professionally is very much who I am personally. What you see is what you get, and I don’t change my personality for business. However, you do have to create boundaries and balance the personal and professional. I often find myself filtering. Your presence online is a matter of choice. You choose the content, you create your comfort level – you are an original, or at least should be. I remind myself that I choose what to publish and when. You shouldn’t be paranoid about being too personal, you just need to remind yourself to balance in order to consider how you want to be perceived – after all, you are monitoring your own reputation.

What’s coming up for fashionable mamas this winter?

You can thank Kate Middleton for our ultimate accessory this season – hats. Berets, faux fur Cossack, turban headband - grab them up now! Knee high boots is the must have length and my daily go-to because it instantly makes a casual outfit pop. A great coat is always a must - go for a great pattern, bright color and opt for something that isn’t your average plain Jane pea coat. A great grey nail color is a must! We are in love with the Touring America collection from OPI! And lastly, any dress or top with a great Peter Pan collar. It instantly ups the ladylike factor and adds a little flare – you won’t even need a necklace!

What are your top mommy must-haves for busy moms on the go?

I am absolutely obsessed with Lehla Shop’s Magnebloom headbands (sold at InvenTORI) because they are perfect for those terrible hair days when you can’t just throw on a hat. Perfect for busy moms on the go!

My Timi & Leslie Charlie Pewter diaper bag is a must. Not only does it look like a fabulous bag (it doesn’t scream diaper bag), it fits everything I need for me and my Littles. I am all about the big bags. Oh, and of course, my iPhone 4.

MomAgenda Zebra Desktop Planner & lots of stylish notebooks from Vera Bradley are a must! Phil & teds strollers – couldn’t live without them - yes, my Verve is now a must-have accessory. They make life so easy!

My desk wouldn't be complete without my Clairebella Personalized Melamine Zebra Tray from Layla Grayce -- it is a major must - just love it! And lastly - I can't go a day without my Star Candy undies {I know, ahhh!} but - I can't wash them enough. Seriously, everyone needs the entire collection. Your booty will thank you later!

Thank you, Casi!

10 I have to say i would love to do my 5 and 2 year old boys room over!!(They share it) I think boys should have there own way of expressing themselves and there room can surely use it. Rooms almost need to invite you into them and there room just says i have stuff! Most of the time they spend running around the living room and not really having a place for them to invent themselves and express who they are!! This would surely help show them even as boys they can have style too!! Jan 5, 2012

I would love, love, LOVE to win this!  I have never really lost the "baby weight" from my 2 year old son and I was personal born with Spina Bifida (which makes it real had to workout and whatnot). Since I had our son, Landon....sweats and baggy shirts are my best friends.  Our son was our "Honeymoon baby", so it seems like I have been stuck in this sweats/baggy shirt thing for our whole (almost) 3 years of marriage.  I would love to have the, means by winning this package, not only to give my husband something "new" to look at, but also for me!   If I don't win...its perfectly okay, as I am very greatful for whomever wins.  BUT, as I talked about Spina Bifida before, I just wanted to get this out to somebody in the "Style" world:  One problem I have always had was SHOES!  I wear braces to support me walk and I can never find shoes that will fit with the braces.....and if I dont wear the braces, I can't walk.  As many girls would say, "Shoes can MAKE the outfit!"  I am currenlty readying Mommywood and I love that Tori said she was bring "Closed toed shoes back"......I was like "Thank you, Tori." To wrap this up, I am not looking to win (but would be super happy if I did), I am looking to get the word out that people with a disabilty want Style too.......If I win, could I hire Tori to design me shoes that fit, as if anybody could do it...she could!

I would like to win a makeover because I have never known how to be girlie. I dress in jeans and tshirts. My mom just wasn't that type and I never learned it. I barely know how to fix my hair, it stays in a ponytail like 24/7! I love love looking at fashion but am so intimidated by it! Recently on Christmas, my boyfriend of 2 1/2 years, told me how excited he was when I told him I was going to have my sister-in-law straighten my hair for me for Christmas Eve day when visiting his family. He is amazing and never complains about how I look, but explained that "it makes a guy proud when other people are talking about how nice his significant other looks...". I just really don't know the basics of being that girl but would LOVE to!

I would love a makeover for my little boys room. It's a small 10 x 10 (or so) room that sleeps my three youngest (ages 3,3 and 4). I would love for them to have a functional room that is fun, fun, fun, as a room should be. We have integrated the children's needs into every aspect of our home as we feel the home should refelct the needs of all who live there yet this room is still in transition. The dresser is broken and the three beds leave no room for anything else. I would really appreciate some creative direction and a prize package to get things moving!! Help me give my babies a place to dream!!!!

I would be eternally gratful for a makeover. I have a six week old baby boy and need a dose of confidence. People always say, oh you look so good but come on...dont we do that to make our fellow moms feel better? i would love to feel put together again even if just for a day!

Well, I would first like to say that I find both Casi and Tori an inspiration. I have been a Tori fan FOREVER but I am definitely now a fan of Casi and cupcakeMAG! I am a busy mom of two boys, 8 and 3, and I am a registered nurse. I would LOVE a makeover for my and my husband's bedroom. It's a little blah and could use some sprucing up. Seems like it's often used as a "playroom" by our boys, lol! I would love it to have a romantic look as it's just bland beige and littered with toys at the moment. Thanks for the oppurtunity to win!

I am a busy mom of three, working and commuting just over an hour in each direction to school - still finishing my bachelor's degree. My husband and I have been married for seven years, and just bought our first home a year ago. My husband and I are highschool sweethearts, and have three beautiful young children. We are still working thru the loss of our fourth child, who was delivered via c-section/emergency-hysterectemy at a very early 22 week gestation. My family has always come first, even when facing the deadly pregnancy complications we took on in 2010... my family will always come first. Either a makeover or room makeover would be more than I could ever imagine. Our house is not yet decorated, and the three kids are all in the same room. Our room is less than relaxing. My body has yet to recover from the emergency surgery. In 8hours i recieved 28 units of blood, had my baby delivered early and had my uterus removed. After weeks in the hospital i slowly came back, but my body and self esteem have never been the same.

I’m not the only mom out there with a passion for business – in fact, I know a bunch of you moms here on ediTORIal have businesses of your own too!

I know how challenging it is to get a business off the ground while maintaining the daily routine of getting dinner on the table, making sure the kids are in bed on time, and still making time to nurture your relationship with your hubby. It’s a lot to ask of one woman, and sometimes we have to be ok with letting little things slide while we keep our eyes on the big picture.

Be Featured on ediTORIal!

I want to recognize all you multi-tasking business mavens here by featuring a mompreneur bi-monthly. For a chance to be interviewed by me and have your business featured here on ediTORIal, just leave a comment below telling me the name of your business, what you do, and what inspired you to start it.

I can’t wait to meet all you mompreneurs!

355 Hi Tori, congrats on the new baby news!! I am a social worker in New Jersey and I recently released a children's book series called, Lily's Little Life Lessons. The books are based on the main character Lucky Lily. She is a bright eyed brunette who feels lucky for the special people in her life and grateful for all the lessons she learns along her way. The characters in the short, rhyming stories are based on my daughter and other members of my family. Helping people remember to find what makes them feel lucky was a source of inspiration for the books. Since I am a social worker, a mom, and a wife, spreading the word about the books has been hard, but fun and exciting too! We are big fans of your children's book as well. I would love the opportunity to talk to you and your audience about the messages in my series. I have more Lily tales ready to go and I am eager to keep it going. Thank you for this wonderful opportunity. It is so kind and generous of you to think of others and try to help. I wish you all the best. 356 Welcome to the magical world of Princess Charleston.

I am so proud to have written and self published my first children's book. The story is based on my own daughter who inspires me everyday.

Princess Charleston is a caring little girl who loves all of her friends in the land, air and sea.  Sing with her as she helps to bring animals of the Isle of Palms to shelter during a scary thunderstorm.

"This heartwarming story was first told to a special baby on the back porch of the family home on the beautiful Isle of Palms in South Carolina.  It is now time this story of kindness, sharing, and respect for the beautiful nature of the Lowcountry be shared with families everywhere."

Hi! I am so excited to share my prodcut with everyone! I am the owner of SnapMe Swimwear. Our website is www.snapmeswimwear.com and this is my story...

Let me tell you about a typical Saturday during the summer with my family. We have 2 daughters 4 Years and under that love the beach, so we go as often as possible. We all get up in the morning, make breakfast, and then pack a ton of things that we need to bring. Before we know it, an hour has gone by. We get in the car and realize we forgot something. Another 5 minutes and we are finally on our way! It only takes us 10 minutes to get to the beach, and go figure, there is NO PLACE TO PARK!

Now it's time to unload the car and drag all of my daughter's toys, her bag, the umbrella, chairs, cooler, etc. onto the beach. We set up our little area and finally it's time to sit down and relax. As fate would have it….SHE HAS A DIRTY DIAPER!!!

While I am trying to get her suit off she squirms and sand sticks to her. The suit is wet and I struggle trying to get it back on. So, I sat there and thought there has to be a better way? Not only is SnapMe Swimwear good for diaper changing, but when you daughter shows signs that she wants to be a big girl and start to potty train you can easily pull off the snaps in no time!

Also, I am sure moms agree with me there is nothing more disgusting than a public restroom at the beach…ugh! You can use the SnapMe Suits for your older girl (sizes up to 4T) so she doesn't have to drop her bathing suit on that nasty floor ever again!

So this is how SnapMe Swimwear was born and moms all over ge so excited when our new styles come in every season. We have contests all year around and lucky winners get a FREE suit!

I would love to be considered to be interviewed and share my product with moms all over the world! Please visit my website www.snapmeswimwear.com :)

Thanks~ Renee

Hi Tori! The name of my shop is "anna's trunk" and it was named for my great-grandmother, Anna Lonning, who came through Ellis Island from Norway-I always admired her adventurous spirit and thought it would be the perfect name for my little shop. I started my shop on etsy back in 2008 just after losing my mom suddenly. She was my best friend and losing her so suddenly was truly devastating for me-but I wanted to be strong for my kids and show them that even through adversity and grief, we can find ways to stay positive and move forward. My mom's slogan (long before Nike LOL) was "Just Do It," so I did! I took all the things I have a passion for: classic literature, historical fashion, and other pretty, little luxuries and shaped them into "anna's trunk."

My kids have been part of my business since the beginning-I always wanted them to be included! My daughter, Sarah, is 19 and she is my sounding board for new designs and ideas-she also runs things to the post office for me and helps keep things running in the house when I'm working a deadline. My son, Benjamin, is 6 but he is my biggest fan! He tells me "good job, Mom!" and he helps out with putting address labels on packages, etc...and then there's my husband, Sean. Without him, I wouldn't be successful-he's my rock! Sometimes things get a little...well, ok, a LOT crazy around here with schedules, deadlines, weird hours (for me), etc. but I think that is what I like BEST about being a work at home mom! No day is ever boring! And I love that I'm providing an example to both my kids-that if you really believe in something, you should go for it! Believe in it, commit to it and see it through because you never know where it can lead! I love creating my little sachets and quotation pillows-it has allowed me to connect with so many wonderful people all over the world and it allows me to be creative (which really feeds my soul!). I know my mom would be proud!

Hi Tori! Thank you for this wonderful opportunity to share with you something that is very dear to my sisters and I. NiGi - hand-painted kids clothes. It has been in my family for over 20 years. Now with 6 kids between us it has been a crazy 20 years!

NiGi hand-designs each piece of our collections. Each of our clothing items is not only practical but an artistic statement. The pride we take in offering personal touch to our customers is shown by the carefully selected fabrics from striking black and white blends to soft spring color palettes. Each design is hand-painted, using fabric paint and carefully crafted appliqués. Our collections are a unique blend of classic designs and playful creativity, bringing back nostalgic feelings of when life was simple… and sweet.

NiGi began by accident.

From the small islands of Trinidad and Tobago, my sisters, Nicole and Giselle (NiGi) realized early on that they were artistically inclined. When our friends in Trinidad and Tobago began to ask them to employ their artistic talents to a variety of different mediums—from catamarans to dresses—my sisters realized they had an “accidental gift”. Our inspiration comes from the sweetness of the islands and the unique, bright personalities of our kids. “Never stifle creativity” is NiGi’s motto, and it is an experience we live every day.

It has been a long journey for all of us and now with the support of my husband and sweet baby girl, I have the exciting opportunity to introduce NiGi to North America... and the rest of the world from here in Denver,CO! We launched our website this year and my sisters and I could not be more proud.

Hi Tori-

I am so thankful you are giving us mommies an incredible opportunity like this.

A little about me: I am a stage IV breast cancer “thriver,” stay at home mom and artist.  My company is Embracing Life Love & Art – I paint inspirational mixed media canvases.  I do a lot of custom names for children’s rooms with messages of love and compassion to the children – so it is always there for them to see and remember.

I am inspired to share this with you for several reasons – one, well, you have awesome taste (!) and two I would love my canvases to be featured on your site and reach even more people.

I donate 10% of ALL sales of canvases and 25% of postcards to small non-profits – I know how blessed I am, so it is a way I give back to keep it all in the flow!

Please check my stuff out at: http://www.etsy.com/shop/EmbracingLifeLoveArt or at: http://embracinglifeloveart.blogspot.com/

Hi Tori-

I'm very excited to tell you my story... and Thank you so much for the opportunity!

My crafting began as a kid. I am self taught in making jewelry, party favors, and many other things. My company is Uni Q Creations (pronounced u-knee q  not "unique")

I've been a stay home mom for the last 13 years. All 3 of my boys have been diagnosed with Autism and because of that I have stayed home for them, while my husband was the sole provider, to do their therapies and meetings and Dr. appointments. Fast forward to 2010 when my husband lost his job...I had decided to open my own Etsy shop to sell my crafts and help with some finances while he focused on looking for another job. I've gotten many private sales and custom orders. I used all kinds of media, and even have my boys do some things with me...my youngest always wants to help me make a bracelet.

I make all kinds of jewelry and crafts. I've also made my own party favors for weddings and birthday parties. I love the fact that I can be home for my family and still be a mom and wife while making things that others enjoy as much as I enjoy making them.

My Etsy shop is http://www.UniQCreations.etsy.com

My blog is  http://ericahusbanduniqcreations.blogspot.com

I'm also on Facebook and Twitter @UniQCreations

Thanks for taking the time to read my story and btw....You and your family Rock! =)

I just launched a product that I've been working on for the past year!  I can't wait to share with all of you!

Introducing a new bib for the modern tot!

Wee Drool T-bibs are stylish waterproof bibs designed to protect your little one's clothing from dribble, drool, spit up and spills in an ultra chic way.  Our unique three layered t-shirt like design will ease your mind of the worries that a normal bib poses while leaving your little one smiling in comfort.  Made from a blend of Bamboo Viscose and Organic Cotton, these T-bibs are the ultimate in softness, comfort, soak-proof protection and of course, style!  Our hip modern prints make for a stylish cover up solution that is inspiring a new generation to drool in style!

I am a mom of 3 very drooly boys.  I developed this product out of pure desperation to address the many problems that the normal bib poses. With no drool bib in the marketplace that met my expectations of function, quality, comfort and of course style, Wee Drool was born.  I designed the bib to resemble a hip graphic tee that can't be yanked off, won't flip around like a cape or flip over the baby’s face when lying down.  I wanted the baby to feel and look like the bib was part of their outfit.  The Wee Drool     T-Bib is designed for both baby and parent in mind.

T-bib = comfort + less rash = happy baby and less laundry = even happier moms!

Wee Drool bibs are good for baby and good for the planet! We are committed to providing superior quality products that are environmentally safe. We use low impact dyes, environmentally friendly water-based inks and recycled paper hang tags. We are also proudly made in the USA, which reduces carbon footprint.

Please check out my website or facebook fan page!

Thanks for looking!

Introducing My Sponsors!
Posted by Tori Spelling on Jun 13, 2011

T logo

My name is Tori, and I’m a workaholic. In fact I have a sponsor - ok a few - who help to ensure that ediTORIal continues to run smoothly.

I’m so grateful to my sponsors for helping to keep ediTORIal running, and I’ll be introducing you to them - but first, I have to tell you, I don’t let just any old person sponsor ediTORIal. Each sponsor has to meet my strict, detail-oriented, OCD standards! All sponsors are brands that I have carefully selected with you in mind. Some of them are brands you may have heard of; others will be fun new discoveries.

It’s extremely important to me that all sponsors offer you something of value, whether it’s useful information or a chance to win something cool. These carefully curated sponsors will speak directly to you from the ediTORIal account (rather than mine), to introduce themselves and offer lots of goodies, giveaways, deals and steals. Didn’t I say I have your back?

Every brand showcased here has been vetted by me, and on ediTORIal, sponsored posts will never dilute the credibility of the site and this amazing community. In other words, anytime a sponsor is showcased, there will be something in it for you!

Which brings me to the most important point: thank you from the bottom of my heart for your support and for making ediTORIal such an amazing site. Everything we do here is to ensure that you have the best experience possible, so if you have any questions or concerns, let us know.

Love,
T

Welcome to ediTORIal!
Posted by Tori Spelling on May 31, 2011

Tori I think everything in life is an art. Your choice of words, what you wear, how you smile and put others at ease, the way you pack your kids’ lunches, or how you gift wrap a present, even the stuff you put in your purse, says something about you. Putting thought into everyday actions makes you feel great, and nothing is more touching than using your creativity to show how much you love someone. Ultimately, the details of daily life add up to who we are - so, why not strive to be inspired?

Even if you feel like going to the store in sweats and lounging in front of the TV drinking orange bang all day, you can do it in a comfy, yet chic caftan, while serving orange bang in a fabulous tumbler. My point is, whether you’re dressed to the nines for a major event, or enjoying a cozy day at home, you can do it with style, and you can share it with the people around you.

The idea for this website came from my desire to share ideas and inspiration for elevating everyday life. From crafts to entertaining, I love to be creative, and everything I do, from wrapping a gift, to writing a grocery list, to planning a surprise party, has a stylish, yet personalized feel to it. It’s possible to approach all areas of life this way, and living artfully doesn’t cost a thing - except a little creativity.

What’s In A Name?

Of course, picking a name for this site was the hardest part. It kept me up at night, long after the concept and design was complete. I brainstormed constantly and ran ideas by everyone from my family and friends to all my tweeps. I even looked to my chicken Coco, who was an especially good listener.

I finally came up with the name ediTORIal one night around 3am, while browsing ShopBop’s shoe salon. You’ve heard of sleepwalking? Well, I occasionally suffer from sleepshopping. It’s one way I get inspired (or that’s what I tell myself).

Anyway, the reason I love ediTORIal is it captures what we all do to get inspired: navigate through the noise, pick out the stuff we love, and narrow it down to a carefully curated selection of objects, observations, and images.

What You’ll Find Here

In ediTORIal, I’m sharing all of the ideas, icons, and trends that inspire me, and I’m asking you to tell me what’s inspiring you! I’ll be sharing my personal tips for decorating, entertaining, and developing a unique personal style. Plus I’ll be dishing about relationships and parenting, and asking such questions as ‘Don’t all little boys wear nail polish?’, ‘Do I need to be worried that Stella says she has a boyfriend?’, ‘Should I adopt more friends for Totes McGoats?’, or ‘Should I rename my home Green Acres? Or Tori&Dean: Home Sweet Farmhouse?’ Hmm, I should file that idea away for my next network pitch.

no clue how you find time to do all this stuff...I have alittle site on FB that I have been maintaining DAILY ( several times a day) for weight loss and it is starting to become hard to do...However it did help me lose 100 lbs in 8 months =) Good for you, Tori..you have achieved A LOT on your own and your fans can totally see that. I think it is pretty cool that your name is Tori and not Karen or Jennifer LOL you have a lot of options for titles...you rock!

I cannot even tell you how excited I am about this new site Tori! I love your family and all that you create!!! I am such a huge fan and I love that you are all so down to earth and REAL! I remember I was so excited when I wrote to you online during your season finale, when you were watching along live and I asked you about wedding advice and you answered! The best advice ever, to stop make eye contact and really take it all in. The day still went by in a whirl but we def followed your advice. Thanks! Its hard to believe it will be a year in August!!! Your the best and can't wait to visit ediTORIal daily!!! Congrats on your lil bun in the oven too!

I actually am currently in the process of starting my own business called The Cleaning Fish.  I am an Army wife and have began to notice that a lot of the military spouses that work feel that they have to sacrifice a clean house or time with their families.  So I am working at starting a business where I clean their house as often and as detailed as they like while they are at their job so that they have more time with their family because being a military family is hard enough with deployments and change of stations that family time is crucial.  I knew that there were already a lot of cleaning companies out there so I took my business plan one step further and made it strictly for military families and lowered my rates drasctically so that they would be affordable.

This post is the reason that I started following this blog. It changed my view on everything, including how I look at work every day. I look at everything as an extension of who I really am and that has changed a lot about how I get ready every day! So Thank You for this and for giving this mommy her groove back.

Hi Tori,

I was watching you on HSN and you said that you would like to hear ideas for future charm bracelets, my idea is for a baby's first charm bracelet, for example, you could put a highchair for the first time they ate, little shoes for the first time they walked, a bottle, a little cup for they first time they drank, well I hope you liked the idea!

Love you, Tori!!

Casi, you and Tori both are an inpiration for us future Mompreneurs. I aspire to be one, and have been dragging my feet because I can't seem to find enough time to manage it all. Knowing that you successful folks have the same issues alleviate some of the "I'm not good enough" thoughts that run through ones head.

I would LOVE this makeover. I am up quite a bit on the scale post-pregnancy, have some hormonal bumps in the road, and could really use a surface pick  me up! Last week I realized I had not had my eye brows waxed since my son was born three years ago! Thankfully, the lovely lady at Wicked Beauty in Hamilton, NJ said they didn't look bushy and would have never known it had been that long. Here's hoping I am the lucky winner, to complete to external overhaul and accept and embrace where I am at the moment.

Keep doing what you love! I plan to and will be sure to share my details once I revamped my website.
