The summer out fit I would wear with this amazing necklace is a hot little Pink Dress I have. I find that my gold jewelry looks amazing with Pink. I love my jewelry because it can make a simple out fit look well put together and unique. I think this amazing necklace would look great with just about anything I have in my closet but it would also be great for a night out in one of my black dresses. This necklace would just make it POP! LOVE IT - LOVE IT... TORI great job!

I would wear this with a kelly green shift dress that I'm going to wear at a charity dinner my husband and I are giving later next month.  The charity is for our local Hospice center.  I love green and gold together, especially with my red hair. :)

Pattern mixing can be intimidating – you don’t want to look too busy or like you’re crazy – but if you follow these simple rules, you’ll nail it every time.

1. Establish a commonality

pattern mixing, mixing prints, how to mix patterns

Even though you’re mixing it up, your patterns should still have some uniting element to tie it all together. Sticking within a color scheme is a great example of how you can create a thread that unifies the outfit and keeps your patterns from clashing or looking busy.  Another great way is to go uniform with your texture – satin top with satin pants will look clean no matter how many patterns are involved.

2. Balance the pattern sizes

pattern mixing, mixing prints, how to mix patterns

pattern mixing, mixing prints, how to mix patterns
Two large patterns paired together will look off, just as two small patterns can look dizzying. Mixing a small pattern with a large one strikes a balance that works well together and evens out the ensemble.

3. Stay away from competing or matchy-matchy pattern choices

pattern mixing, mixing prints, how to mix patterns
pattern mixing, mixing prints, how to mix patterns

Florals are great, but you don’t want to be the floral lady, decked out head-to-toe in flowers. Instead, if you’re wearing a floral skirt, balance it with a striped top. It’s the difference between “wow!’ and “whoa!”

4. Give your prints some room to breathe

pattern mixing, mixing prints, how to mix patterns
Separating patterns with a neutral solid can go a long way. A busy skirt with a patterned scarf will look sleek with a neutral blouse to space it out. This is a great way to dip your toe into pattern mixing without going full-throttle if you’re just trying it out.

5. Embrace old favorites

patterns
It can take a while to feel really comfortable boldly mixing wild patterns, so a good jumping off point is to wear patterns you already have in your closet, like leopard or houndstooth, paired with something a little edgier. It is truly the best place to start and you’re more likely to feel confident which means you’re more likely to look great.

If you follow these simple rules, there’s no way you’ll mess it up – so get out there and start mixing it up!

Do you mix patterns? Tell me why or why not and, if you do, upload photos to show us your looks!

Actually I'm quite surprised how good pattern mixing can look! I absolutely adore the floral thing that's going on in the third picture (big & small flowers). I'm not used to mixing patterns. I do have clothes with both finer and bold patterns, but always stay on the safe side by wearing one piece at the time on a (usually) black background. I do use bigger coloured accessories like bags and scarves to add a little extra in all the blackness, but still on the safe side. This post triggers me to be a bit more fierce with the patterned look, I will take a plunge in my wardrobe to see if I can start right away. Or I just might have found a good excuse for a little retail therapy this weekend!!! After all, it's Mothers Day on Sunday!

As rule I am not at all adventurous with prints, but now I'm inspired to mix florals, the way you said, mixing a big print with a small print. My mum always told me never mix stripes and florals, but I'll have to try this as I never knew it could look so good. Thanks so much. Look out here I come.

Stella is starting a haute new toddler trend: fashion Band-Aids as accessories:

stella

According to my mini stylista, she wants to wear Band-Aids on her leg because “it looks cool and chic.” In the image above, Stella opted for stylish casuals with statement fringe sandals for a sunny day look.

Stay tuned to find out if this trend catches on.

What’s the craziest thing your mini stylistas are wearing these days?

Yep. My kiddo too. We have a cabinet full of all the different designs. He loves them all! Cars, hotrods, super heroes. But he's also into strawberry shortcake and the princesses. Which is fine with me! You can't tell a kid what they are allowed to like based on sex. If he wants to wear a tinker bell bandaid on his arm then I say "Rock on!" :)

My little Tyler would want to wear a diaper only, if I would let him.  He takes his clothes off and then tries to put them back on, getting mad when he cannot.  He also likes to slather himself with whatever he is eating only after he is done eating it!!  The life of a 17 month old.  :)

That is so cute Tori!!!! My daughter insist on Wearing jeans, then shorts over the jeans then a skirt. We also wear 2 or 3 shirts at a time with this outfit as well. It takes me hours to convince her to just chose one and then I get a response, “But Mommy I like all of them, so I want to wear all of them.” LOL She actually went to her day care like that once cause I was already running almost 3 hours late to work from trying to convince her just one and it wasn’t working. The next day when I dropped her off there were 5 other girls wearing her little 6 piece outfit LOL.

hsn collection

To kick off spring in style, I decided to give away this vintage-inspired Gold Necklace from my HSN collection. Our winner, Carrie Allen, will be looking glam all spring and summer long! Here are just a few of the places she’ll be wearing her winnings:

I have several special occasions this spring and summer, from Mother’s Day to Father’s Day picnics to my daughter’s graduation from Kindergarten in June. I could see this with many outfits for many occasions... from a casual dinner with the family to a dressy wedding for my nephew. Now my 6-year-old daughter will probably ask to wear it too, as she just picked out these super cute wedge high heel shoes that have the same circles down the front of them!

Congratulations Carrie! I can’t wait to see pictures of you (and your daughter!) wearing your new necklace!

Chic Bump: Define a Waist
Posted by Tori Spelling on Apr 25, 2012

As your belly grows you lose your waist. But, when it comes to style, I say create a new one! If bump is the new black, then under the boob is the new waist! Either belt an empire waist dress or take a loose dress with no waist and create one. Stretchy vintage belts are especially great for this or repurpose an old scarf or some rope. Even a cut up t-shirt can make an amazing stretchy belt. Add some beads to it and you’re suddenly a trendsetter. However you choose to belt your bump remember to wear it proud!

Here are some examples of my waist-defining pregnancy style at different points of my pregnancies:

I saw a pregnant lade today who had a belt on under her belly, and it just didn't look right to me. It looks better that way you have the belt above the bump.

27

Love this! That's exactly the style I'm going with for my Baby Shower :) My tip is to find a pair of pregnancy "skinny jeans." Even if they aren't name brand, they make you feel better about yourself. And with all of the, er, discomforts of pregnancy it's nice to have something that makes you at least feel atractive again :)

HSN necklace

There’s a special place in my heart (and my closet…) for vintage and today I’m excited to be giving away a vintage-inspired necklace from my HSN Jewelry Collection! This gorgeous Goldtone Link Necklace is the perfect mix of old glamour and nautical flair and it would look chic layered over any of your ensembles this spring.

And with Mother’s Day just a few weeks away, this would be the perfect gift for your mama to unwrap on her special day (or the perfect way for all of you momistas to treat yourselves!).

To enter to win, leave me a comment below telling me where you’d wear your new necklace this spring!

Good luck!

As any fashionista can attest, sometimes following the trends of the time can be pretty hilarious in retrospect.

The other day I stumbled upon an image of myself in the 90’s and thought it would be funny to take a look back at some of my style moments over the years.

Brace yourselves.

Question.  In your style section, would you consider a short snapshot list of some of your fav items of the moment, like a good classic cardigan, pair of jeans, comfy flats that are adorable yet practical for the market/chasing toddlers?  Just a thought.  Then perhaps a link as to where to purchase said items?  You might have this somewhere already, in which case, I'm an idiot.
